Research Activity

My research activity has been focused on regulation of gene expression in human cells and its effects on different diseases as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders and female infertility. In the last years, I interested in the role of non- coding RNAs (microRNAs and long non coding RNAs) in the regulation of gene expression and on their alteration in different biological pathways involved in human pathologies. Particularly, about Reproductive Biology, we analyzed specific expression profiles of mRNAs, specifically the different subunits of General Transcription Factor TFIID and the genes encoding Apoptotic Machinery, in human MII oocytes in non pathological conditions. Moreover, we analyzed human oocytes miRNome and investigated the alteration related to female aging. We characterized exosomes and their miRNAs cargo in human follicular fluid, identifying miRNAs performing their role in folliculogenesis and oocyte maturation. Finally, we determined the alteration of gene expression in human endometrium related to Chronic Endometritis (CE) and implantation failure and identified two circulating miRNAs able to discriminate women with CE from healthy ones. My research activity carried on in collaboration of different national and international groups, is supported by several papers published in international journals and participation as speaker at national and international congresses.

Comprensione delle basi molecolari della gametogenesi femminile e alle alterazioni delle pathways cellulari correlate all’infertilità. In particolare: 1) studio del Trascrittoma (mRNAs e non coding RNAs ) negli ovociti umani e nel microambiente follicolare e alle specifiche variazioni correlate all’invecchiamento riproduttivo; 2) studio dei profili di espressione genica (mRNA e non coding RNAs ) nell’endometrio correlati all’impianto.
